The name goes back to a medieval legend: The robber baron Ruprecht was thrown into prison by the citizens of the rich city of Dornburg. But Hildegard, the mayor's daughter, was in love with him and freed him, whereupon he and his friends burned the city. Hildegard went insane and fell from the rock, which was later named after her, to death.
