A detour to the quarry is absolutely worthwhile because it is very impressive. You can drive through - the path is very easy to drive, except for a short, steep stretch downhill/uphill - wide "paths". It is best to approach from above and then through the quarry - you get back on the original path.
For professional MTB riders there are many opportunities to "let off steam" ;-).
