The pretty little mausoleum is located in the middle of the Faberwald Park, but unfortunately it is a bit neglected and covered with scribbles.

The pencil manufacturer Lothar von Faber acquired the site in 1842 and built a villa in the Neo-Renaissance style. In 1852/53, a 30-hectare English landscape garden was laid out next to the villa according to plans by the landscape gardener Adolf Wagner. After he died at the age of 42, this mausoleum was built. It stands in what is now a public park with lakes and rest areas:

After 1970, the Faber-Castell family tried to rededicate the park as building land, but met with strong resistance from the population. The park has been under landscape protection since 1971. In 1981, the Free State of Bavaria acquired two thirds of the site and handed it over to the city of Nuremberg with the condition that the neglected park be opened and maintained.

: The mausoleum was built as a memorial hall to commemorate three deaths in the family: Lothar Faber died in 1893 at the age of only 42, his sons Eberhard and Alfred died years before him as children.
