The pencil manufacturer Lothar von Faber acquired the site in 1842 and built a villa in the Neo-Renaissance style. In 1852/53, a 30-hectare English landscape garden was laid out next to the villa according to plans by the landscape gardener Adolf Wagner, which included meadows and wooded areas, bridges, a 1-hectare pond and a mausoleum.
