Hiking Highlight
One of the most prominent buildings in the city. Aptly, the Munich Wiki says: "The building is a pathetic backdrop architecture with a great long-distance effect on the eastern Isar high bank in the line of sight of Maximilianstrasse on the other side of the Maximiliansbrücke."
The foundation stone was laid in 1857 - 17 years later construction was completed. From the Isar side, the numerous modern additions to the east to expand the premises of the state parliament cannot be made out - you have to go behind the splendid facade to do this.

Since 1876, the Maximilianeum in Munich's Haidhausen district has housed the Maximilianeum Foundation for gifted students from the Palatinate and Bavaria, who also own the building. In addition, since 1949 it is the seat of the Bavarian state parliament. The construction is located on the eastern bank of the Isar (Maximiliansanlagen) in the visual axis of the Maximilianstraße via the Maximiliansbrücke. The elaborate backdrop architecture achieves a great long-distance effect.
