One of the most prominent buildings in the city. The Munich Wiki says aptly: "The building is located as a pathetic backdrop architecture with a great long-distance effect on the eastern high bank of the Isar in the line of sight of Maximilianstrasse beyond the Maximiliansbrücke."
The foundation stone was laid in 1857 - the building was completed 17 years later. From the Isar side, the numerous modern extensions in the east to expand the state parliament's premises cannot be seen - to do this you have to go behind the magnificent facade.

Since 1876, the Maximilianeum in Munich's Haidhausen district has housed the Maximilianeum Foundation for gifted students from the Palatinate and Bavaria, who also own the building. In addition, since 1949 it is the seat of the Bavarian state parliament. The construction is located on the eastern bank of the Isar (Maximiliansanlagen) in the visual axis of the Maximilianstraße via the Maximiliansbrücke. The elaborate backdrop architecture achieves a great long-distance effect.
