From the 5-8 m high ramparts you have an excellent view over the Noor.

Unesco named the Viking Age trading center and the Danewerk border structure a World Heritage Site in 2018. The museum as well as the seven reconstructed houses that are located on the historical site show impressively how people lived there in the early Middle Ages. With a little imagination, you can take a look back at the Middle Ages.

The Haddebyer Noor (Danish: Haddeby Nor) is now an inland lake in Schleswig-Holstein, near the city of Schleswig. The Noor is connected to the Schlei – an arm of the Baltic Sea – by two outlets in the north, and the Selker Noor to the south. The area is around one square kilometer. With the construction of the Haddebyer Chaussee between Schleswig and Eckernförde, today's federal highway 76, the Noor was separated from the rest of the Schlei with a dam around 1882.
The Viking trading settlement of Haithabu once lay on the west bank of the Haddebyer Noors. In the 1970s, the remains of the port facilities and a Viking ship were excavated in the Noor. A little north of the former Haithabu is the little town of Haddeby, which gives the Noor its name and where the Viking Museum Haithabu is located.
The Haddebyer Noor belongs with its entire area to the municipality of Fahrdorf, whose district Loopstedt is on the eastern bank. In the west, the municipality of Busdorf borders on the shore, in the southwest, the municipality of Selk.
