Crag Fell Summit

Crag Fell Summit

Recommended by 61 hikers out of 63

Crag Fell, named for the broken, rocky cliffs it displays above Ennerdale, makes for a splendid objective from the village of Ennerdale Bridge. Despite its name, Crag Fell is a mostly gentle, grassy hill, which makes for a delightful traverse. One of a trio of Wainwright summits in the vicinity, it can form part of a satisfying round on the edge of the Western Fells.

I wish I could say I had good views from here but the weather was horrid. I hiked this at the same time as Grike and Lank Rigg by parking on the Ennerdale to Calder road. Good paths but had no view at all today.

The summit of Crag Fell is a great vantage point from which to appreciate Ennerdale Water. The summit of Crag Fell is 1,716 feet (523 m) in height and marked by a cairn. Crag Fell is commonly hiked with Grike and Lank Rigg but I've also connected it on a route including Caw Fell. From the valley below you can appreciate where Crag Fell gets its name.

Great viewpoint and easy to access with the good path from the lake car park. The other hills are easily approached from here.
