This broad, flat summit is wonderfully situated above the increasingly wild valley of Ennerdale to the north and Mosedale, the remote offshoot of Wasdale, to the south. As such the scenery is nothing short of spectacular, including the monolithic seen-but-not-touched Pillar Rock, whose own compact summit is the realm of steely sinewed climbers only.

Pillar stands at 892m (2927ft) high. It falls into the following main summit categories: Wainwright, Nuttall, Birkett, Marilyn, Fellranger. It is also part of the Mosedale Horeseshoe route, looking down the valley through to Wasdale. The summit can be reached from a varity of sides, each giving a rocky ascent, with scrambling options aplenty. Surrounded by 360 views of Haystacks and the slate quarries on one side, Scafell on another and Great Gable on another.

Pillar is a 892m mountain in the Western Lake District National Park. Its bulky profile is recognisable for miles around. The fell itself separates Wasdale and Ennerdale valleys and it can be hiked from either side. Pillar is a great highlight of the Mosedale Horseshoe walking route.
