I hiked this as a group of five Wainwrights (Burnbank Fell 475m, Blake Fell 573m, Gavel Fell 526m, Hen Comb 509m and Mellbreak 512m). It was a loop from Stuart Marshal's Wainwright book (Route No 34). World class picture postcard views!

For me, the best thing about hiking to the summit of Hen Comb is to enjoy the view towards Buttermere and Fleetwith Pike. At 1,670 feet (509 m), it's not the biggest fell in the Lake District National Park and it's largely surrounded by very boggy ground, but the ascent is worth it. Make sure you pop in for a drink at the Kirkstile Inn before you leave the area.

Stunning views of the surrounding hills and lake Buttermere. An ideal lunch spot.
