Gavel Fell is a Wainwright hill in the western Lake District. The summit of Gavel Fell is marked by a cairn. There have been a couple of wild fires in this area, the most recent being in February 2021 during a particularly dry spell. You can still see scorch marks on the fence posts along the ridge and across the landscape.

Gorgeous Gavel Fell. I hiked this as a group of five Wainwrights (Burnbank Fell 475m, Blake Fell 573m, Gavel Fell 526m, Hen Comb 509m and Mellbreak 512m). It was a loop from Stuart Marshal's Wainwright book (Route No 34). World class picture postcard views!
