A short but memorable walk from Honister car park up to Grey Knotts and Brandreth, returning via Drum House and the tramway path.

An early morning walk into Cockermouth, to do stuff but also to see the state of our two rivers, the Cocker and the Derwent. The Cocker reached 3.2m at South Street Bridge, its highest for the year so far, and the Derwent got up to about the same level as three weeks ago, overtopping some of Memorial Gardens. The Derwent may still get higher because there is much more lag in it but the Cocker is now going down having reached its peak during the early hours. Had the Environment Agency barriers not been in place, there would have been flooding in the town, so it was a near do.

A walk from home up to Watch Hill but passing through Setmurthy Woods to the north before turning back over the Marilyn summit (east) (255.4m) then Wainwright’s Outlying Fell summit (west) (235.7m). We returned via the excellent Jennings Taproom for light refreshments.

A short wander up Walla Crag on a dry morning, for the first time this week. The real reason was to test how well my wife’s knee is recovering after her injury in August. This is the first time she has summited a Wainwright since then. The result was s success.
