Hiking Highlight
The Peterslay consists of kieselgallenschiefer, a deposit of clayey to slightly sandy sediments in the so-called "Moselle trough" in the Devonian era about 406 million years ago. The concrete shape only emerged in the Quaternary Age in the last 2 million years after the unfolding of the Rhenish Slate Mountains through weathering.

Absolutely amazing up there. If you dare (if it's not wet!!!!) you can climb the rocks. But a word of caution - there is a significant risk of falling! So be careful with children!

The hiker also has the best view of the ruins of the Rauschenburg from the Peterslay. The Archbishop of Trier had the Rauschenburg built in 1332 as part of the Eltz feud. It served as a counter-castle to subdue his opponents at the castles of Waldeck, Schöneck and Ehrenburg.
