Allegedly buried here is a French officer who had been killed in 1813 in the battle for Halle.
Another myth is that the devil from Petersberg tried to throw large stones like this at the surrounding churches, but without hitting them. The hollows in the stone are said to be the fingerprints of the devil. There are a number of other stones in other villages in the area to which this legend belongs.
More likely, however, is that he originally belonged to a Neolithic tomb.
