The picture book location Oberleiterbach appears in historical writings as early as the year 800, i.e. at the time of Charlemagne. The best-known son of the village is Johann Hennemann, better known as hermit Ivo vom Staffelberg, to whom the poet Joseph Victor von Scheffel created an everlasting commemoration in his poem "Well, the air is fresh and pure". The later hermit was born in February 1824 and moved to the "Mountain of the Franks" in 1857. Thanks to the popularity of the Franconian anthem, the "hermit man" became a celebrity. Tourism on the Staffelberg boomed so much that Ivo Hennemann eventually reached his performance limits. In 1897 he moved back to his family in Oberleiterbach at the age of 73 and died there on September 11, 1900. His grave can be found in the cemetery next to the St. Laurentius church.
