The Lehnin Cistercian Monastery is the oldest monastery in the Brandenburg region. It was founded in 1180 by Margrave Otto I of Brandenburg and was inhabited by monks until 1543. It had an eventful history. The Luise Henrietten Abbey, a diaconal institution, has been located here since 1911.
