In the 1960s, the Wienerberg factory was finally closed because the clay quarrying was unprofitable. The Wienerbergteich is 12 hectares in size and is nothing more than the excavation of these brick works. After the factory was closed, the area was used by the city of Vienna to dump rubble. The city's forest rangers then took over the area and transformed it into a recreation area.
