The lime works Schaefer-Kalk were shut down in 2010.
Since 2016, the plants are being dismantled. The 5 lime kilns were blown up in 2017.
The remnants of walls and foundations serve in future the slope protection. The debris is finally covered with some soil to leave it to the natural growth, which should adjust to it quickly.
This includes the quarry Hunsfels, in which after switching off the pumps a 60 meter deep lake has formed.

I still remember the bang when they blew up the lime works. The view of the 60 m deep water-filled cauldron of the former Hunfels quarry is spectacular.
