All that remains of the castle complex is a badly crumbled residential tower with a square floor plan. According to estimates, the origin goes back to the second half of the 15th century to the beginning of the 16th century.
The name Suitbertstein was taken from the vernacular.
The Wolfen von Sponheim are to be assumed as the presumed builder, since three representatives of this knight dynasty were enfeoffed with Dörrebach and Seibersbach by the ore monastery Mainz in 1425.
Due to the unusual location of the residential tower, right next to a higher rock ledge, it cannot have been a kind of fortress in any case. Because in view of the topographical location, possible enemies would have had a clear advantage in the event of an attack. Oral tradition says that the complex also served as a kind of prison. In a document one finds the reference that the Wolves of Sponheim put a wicked in the "tower".

Despite the constant decline, the walls are still up to a height of 12 meters.
Around the tower there are rubble stones that have broken out of the masonry and fallen over the years. That is why the area is fenced off over a large area, as there is still a risk of collapse. Entry by unauthorized persons is strictly forbidden.

Small but beautiful and varied circuit on the "coal mountain" near Dörrebach. With numerous variation options.

Even if there is not much left, it is still impressive when the ruin suddenly appears
