"Standing waves on rivers are a growing trend". The project cost around three million euros and construction took a year. The eight meter wide "fox hole wave" is created by a wave system in a canal parallel to the Pegnitz. A weir dams up the river water, which is channeled through the canal over a ramp. Below it meets slower water: A wave is created. There are three modules in the ramp, which can be used to set different fall heights and angles. This allows you to shape the waves as you need them - from easy exercise waves for beginners to challenges for advanced surfers.

The surfer wave is an eight meter wide river wave in the Pegnitz in Nuremberg, which is available all year round as a sports facility. The wave system developed by the company Dreamwave in cooperation with the University of Innsbruck is installed in a channel parallel to the Pegnitz, which was specially created for this purpose. In operation, the water of the Pegnitz is dammed by a weir in the original course and directed into the canal. Here it flows down an adjustable ramp and meets slower water below, creating a wave. Riders can surf the wave against the direction of flow of the river.
