The Ritterstein, which is maintained by the Palatinate Forest Association (PWV), bears the ordinal number 263. It is located on a beautiful picnic area and is intended to commemorate the Forstmeister Haupt, who earned high recognition for the care of the forest in the district of Hochspeyer. He was also the main board in the Palatine Forest Club.

At the edge of this beautiful rest area is one of the Palatinate Forest Association's more than 300 knight's stones and is dedicated to Emil Haupt (1886 - 1949). The abbreviation "I.M." under the year numbers stands for “in memoriam” (= “to commemorate”).

Emil Haupt headed the Elmstein-Süd Forestry Office from 1924 to 1931.
“The versatile forester was then transferred to Hochspeyer at his own request. Among other things, he sat down for the construction of forest paths to promote hiking as well as forest paths and forest roads for the more efficient transport of wood. For example, [in Elmstein] B. the lower slope path on the Möllberg, which ends at the Rehfelsen with the Möllberg house, the Bloskülbstrasse from Iggelbach towards Eschkopf and the connecting road from Iggelbach to the Helmbachtal (both are now designated K 17). The “Ehrenfels” monument and the Lönshütte were also built on his initiative.
He was also on the board of the Elmstein fruit and horticultural association from 1924 to 1931, and from 1929 to 1930 he was chairman of the Elmstein local group of the Palatinate Forest Association. For several years he was a member of the main board of the Palatinate Forest Association, and in 1948 he was elected first chairman.” He died in Hochspeyer on August 28, 1949.
