Hiking

The former Hornberg Island was a volcanic island of rhyolite rocks from the Rotliegend period 290 million years ago. The inrush of the sea 30 million years ago (Tertiary Age) transformed the previously closed lava cover into peninsulas and islands. The surging waves of the Tertiary Sea created smooth rock surfaces, surf grooves and platforms on the rocky coasts.
