The Rheinhessen coastal path offers the rare opportunity to travel back in time to the geological past of Rheinhessen. The entire region was flooded by a subtropical sea 30 million years ago. Here in this region the coastline at that time ran with the most varied coast forms, numerous peninsulas, bays and an archipelago of volcanic underground.

There was once a sea here around 30 million years ago. You basically walk along what was then the coast.
