The church, which is well worth seeing, dates from the 14th and 15th centuries and is built in late Gothic style. The two-storey Renaissance altar was made from a block of sandstone and was originally created for the Dresden Kreuzkirche.

The stone tower was built on the previous nave in 1645. The nave, in its current form, was built in the years 1668–1671. After a devastating fire, the church was restored from 1709-1711 and changed in the baroque style.
