A fantastic hike from Chingford to Waltham Cross, following the Greenwich Meridian Trail through some of the best scenery around Epping Forest.
The route began in Epping Forest, with beautiful woodland trails and some great views across London opening up through the trees. From there, the trail continued across Whitehouse Plain, with its wide open grassland providing a nice contrast to the forest. Hangman’s Hill was another highlight, with its long open views and rolling landscape before the route eventually made its way towards the M25.
Crossing over the M25 was quite a change of scenery, but it was soon followed by the approach to Waltham Abbey, bringing the hike to a fitting end in this historic part of the Lea Valley.
A brilliant mix of ancient woodland, open countryside, London views and a few interesting changes of scenery along the way. The weather was gorgeous from start to finish, making it an excellent way to round off the weekend.
