Run: Hammersmith and Chiswick

Not every day you see a crocodile* on your run. *Not really a crocodile. I just liked that the sandbox sculpture looked at home partially under water in the flooded play area.

Despite the forecast, avoided rain other than at the very. Lots of parts were squishy underfoot. One section of the path was so flooded that ducks were swimming where I was supposed to be walking. Took an alternate ending through Roding Valley Meadows.

Enfield Lock to Chigwell. Squishy and mostly avoid the rain except right at the end. Locks, canals, rivers, horses, forests, fields, a cemetery, a couple of golf courses, Queen Elizabeth I's hunting Lodge, four deer, and a Ring doorbell telling me I'm being videoed.

Followed the route detailed by the Visiting Vienna website at visitingvienna.com/transport/walking-tour. It is in multiple parts, and covers some of what I did yesterday. Covers the Opera House and surrounds, Hofburg Palace, the museums and part of the ring road along the path of the old city walls

Large park with wooded trails, paths for strolling or cycling and the Prater Amusement Park, including the giant Ferris Wheel famously featured in The Third Man.

Had to go into Vienna centre to visit a shop, and decided to just wander around. Taking a more structured wander tomorrow, which will take in some of the same sites, but I'll have mode detail on them to hand.

Today I completed a beautiful hike with a group of fellow hikers from Langley to Denham. The walk began at Langley station and quickly eased us into nature, with our first highlight being Langley Park, a historic country park set on the grounds of an 18th-century landscaped estate designed in part by renowned landscape architect Capability Brown. The park’s veteran oak and chestnut trees, open parkland, and carefully designed gardens make it a rewarding place to explore on foot. From there, we made our way into Black Park Country Park, one of the largest expanses of woodland, heathland, and open space in the area. Black Park is known for its miles of scenic tracks, extensive woodland trails, and peaceful lakeside, offering a real sense of escape and calm as the route unfolds. One of the standout moments was walking among the tall redwoods and pine woods, their quiet presence adding scale and stillness to the hike. Later, passing by Pinewood Studios offered an interesting contrast between nature and cinema history. To top it off, an overly friendly horse who briefly joined us added a light-hearted, memorable moment to the day. Eventually, we reached the quaint village of Denham, nestled in the Colne Valley and known for its Tudor cottages, ancient church, and relaxed atmosphere. We ended the hike with a well-earned stop at The Swan Inn, enjoying a drink in its historic setting, followed by a short walk to Denham station. With sunshine on our side throughout, it was a wonderfully refreshing January day out, a perfect mix of nature, history, and good company with like-minded hikers.

Really nice route through parks and forests, with some especially beautiful tall pines. A few scrubby and boggy sections and a close encounter with ȧ mad horse weren't quite as much fun, but lunch with the group and a few drinks in the beautiful Denham Village gave a strong ending. I'll be back to walk this again one summer.

Denham is a lovely village. Setting for mgm miss marple films. The cottage used opposite the church is unchanged from the 60's

Boggy underfoot in a few places. Beautiful lakes and forests. A rambunctious horse invaded our space. Lunch amidst fallen trees. Denham is beautiful.

Morning cycle. Dark through Hammersmith and then the lights of Kensington High Street. Hyde Park, and three soldiers out on horseback. Around Buckingham Palace in the traffic. Big Ben chimes 7am just as the first drops fall. Dry through Castle Baynard Street past the tents of the rough sleepers. A woman ahead struggles with headphones as she pedals along. Many runners out. Turn left at the Monument, and up into the canyons of brightly lit skyscrapers of the City of London.

Lovely dry Sunday for a cycle. Through Barnes, Mortlake and onto Kew Green for a short break in the low winter sun filtered through a thin layer of grey and white cloud. Over Kew Bridge, saw that someone had shot paintballs at the wall where the owners recently removed Banksy's Goat "for safe keeping."🙄 Everybody is a critic. 😄 Home via Cycleway 9 through Brentford, Chiswick and Hammersmith.
