In addition to the mixed deciduous forest, there is the Kerstlingeröderfeld in the heart of the city forest with its meadows and pastures.
Wrynecks and red-backed shrike nest here and there are over 650 species of butterflies.

The game reserve at Kehr or the Bismarck Tower are crowd pullers alongside the species-rich mixed deciduous forests of the city forest and the limestone grasslands of the Kerstlingeröderfeld. To ensure that nature remains permanently protected and that future generations of Göttingen residents can enjoy it, the city forest is protected.
