The Rieswarte or Nikolausberger Warte, northeast of the Göttingen district Nikolausberg, is the ruin of a Wartturm of the outer medieval Landwehrring of the city of Göttingen.
The control room had an originally probably about 4 meters high trapezoidal enclosure wall with access to the northwest, whose remains on three sides give an impression of the system. The wall was preceded by a shallow trough-shaped ditch and a hedgerow. Within the wall, three former buildings have been archaeologically proven, one as stabling, another as a residential or farm building, and the third in the middle of the complex as a workhouse, probably for textile and metalworking . [4] The Wartturm is located directly on the northwestern wall, is approximately circular in plan and has a wall thickness of about 1.20 meters, a now closed by a grid access is located in the southwest. Originally, the tower had a height of about 19 meters, the upper structure was made of timber frame. Today, the shaft is still preserved to about 5 meters in height. In the tower, a sewer was integrated, which was located on the wall side, so that the debris did not land inside the plant.
