Best Hikes to View of Essen-Werden, Baldeneysee, and the Heisingen Weir from Heissiwald

Tips

  • At the Essen viewpoint “Heissiwald” you get a wonderful view of the historic district of Werden, the Ruhr, the impressive dam and the beginning of Lake Baldeney. The Essen viewpoint “Heissiwald” is one of a total of 32 viewing points that were put together in 2017 on the occasion of the city being named “European Green Capital”. The viewing points offer an ideal view of the green city of Essen.

  • Very nice view of the Baldeneysee and Essen-Werden .... A lot of car noise due to the B224 .... Some very nice forest sections on the Baldeney Steig, nice UP and DOWN .... Paths in the woods invite you to take extra turns ... ,

  • An absolutely great view of the Baldeneysee, the hydroelectric power plant/dam, the Brehminsel and of course Essen-Werden. This viewpoint is a MUST SEE!!! 😎👍

"... This vantage point is part of the Heissiwald, a popular excursion area with a game reserve, the "Zum Purzel" inn and the "Villa Vue" restaurant.
From here you can see the mighty weir of the Baldeneysee in a northerly direction. With a length of more than 42 meters, a storage height of almost nine meters and a lock width of six meters, it is the largest hydroelectric power station of its kind on the Ruhr. Up to 28 million kilowatt hours of electricity are generated here every year. The weir also serves as a pedestrian bridge. The Brehminsel is directly below the vantage point, behind it stretches Essen-Werden with the green spiers of Sankt Lucius, der
Protestant Church Werden and the Basilica of Saint Ludgerus. In the south, the Werden Bridge connects the S-Bahn station with the city... "
