The Baldeneysee was created in 1933 with the weir in Essen-Werden. Two turbines produce electricity here. At the same time, the weir serves as a transition from one side of the lake to the other.

Once you have climbed the stairs (there is a ramp for bicycles), the weir provides you with various information about the various dams of the Ruhr Association, the flora and fauna of the Ruhr, energy production in the Baldeney power plant and, since 2020, the fish lift system. "The Baldeneysee is by far the largest of the six Ruhr reservoirs and is raised by the weir in Essen-Werden. The operator of the dam on Baldeneysee, which was created between 1931 and 1933 as a job creation measure, is today the Ruhrverband.
