The Siemensstadt housing estate (Ringsiedlung) is one of six Berlin housing estates listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The architects Otto Bartning, Hugo Häring, Hilmer Sattler, Walter Gropius, Rudolf Henning, and Hans Scharoun designed the Siemensstadt housing estate. The Ringsiedlung was built between 1929 and 1931.

A stroll through the Siemensstadt housing estate allows you to directly compare the buildings of classical modernism – each of the famous architects left their own personal mark.

At the end of the 1920s, Berlin's city planning inspector Martin Wagner commissioned six architects to build a new housing estate in Charlottenburg-Nord and Spandau. They were to create affordable housing for employees of the nearby Siemens factory. A total of 1,379 apartments, each with two or two-and-a-half rooms, were built in the estate between 1929 and 1934.
