Cook church. Great architecture. Another fine feast for the eyes in Riga.

St. John's Church (Rīgas Svētā Jāņa baznīca) in Riga's Old Town is a striking example of medieval architecture with a deep history. Originally built in the 13th century as part of a Dominican monastery, the church underwent numerous extensions and restorations over the centuries. The Gothic brick walls and ornate vaults still remind us of the times when the Dominican monks were based here. The church building was further expanded in the 14th century, and after several wars and fires, especially in the 15th century, it had to be repaired repeatedly. The church is also closely linked to the Reformation, as it was one of the first churches in Riga to preach Lutheran doctrine in 1523. Until the resettlement of the Baltic Germans in 1939, the church served as the main church of the German Lutheran community.Today, you can visit St. John's Church in the heart of the Old Town and enjoy its unique atmosphere, which offers a perfect blend of history and spirituality. Particularly fascinating are the beautiful Gothic vaults and the concert events that take place regularly due to the excellent acoustics. The historical context, ranging from medieval monks to modern use, makes this church a must-see for travelers who want to understand Riga's history.
