Hiking Highlight
I write the term Laurentius only one thing: this party mile Laurentiusfest should simply be banned. The Feldberg is a reserve, I do not understand that such dimensions are tolerated here as if it were the Love Parade. That is not how it works. Hikers who get away from the way are groomed and warned, when it comes to money is the operators up there any means right, in which case is the nature and also the animals the victim.

A really great chapel that was built in 1982 and is still in good shape. You can get the key for the door (generally locked) in the Todtnauer Hütte (300m) further downhill.

Saint Lawrence, to whom this chapel in the Feldberg nature reserve is dedicated, is one of the early Christian martyrs from a time when Christianity was still forbidden. He was archdeacon of the Pope and had been asked by the pagan emperor to hand over the treasure to the church. Laurentius asked for three days, but distributed the church property among the poor inhabitants of Rome and after the agreed time came with the poor to the emperor to present them to him as the treasure of the church. Thereupon he was tortured to death, legend has it that he was alive on a grate - this attribute can be seen in many depictions of St. Lawrence - roasted over coals. He is said to have been of good cheer and told his executioner, on the one hand, whether he would not turn it around.
The feast day of Saint Lawrence in the saints calendar is August 10th.

You can get the key to the chapel from the buffet at the nearby “Todtnauer Hütte” inn. The mountain chapel is not intended for sightseeing or overnight stays. The forecourt of the chapel invites you to linger.

The chapel was built in 1946. It is related to the Laurenzi folk festival. This day was originally the date for the cattle markets at the cattle huts on the Feldberg. This tradition is remembered on Laurence Day with a service in and in front of the chapel, which is followed by a hike from hut to hut.
