At the highest point of the city is the medieval Upper Gate, formerly a bridge tower with a battering bridge over the deep ditch. The gate was built in the expansion of a fortified city fortification around 1300. In the 19th century, it also served as a hostel for traveling guilds or craftsmen. Today the marching band uses the rooms for their rehearsals.
To the right of the Nepomuk chapel (description see Highlight) is a large Baroque building, the former district court (dissolved in 1959), which was built as a prince-bishop's official residence in 1734 by M. Küchel. In the Middle Ages, a previous building served as an arsenal of the Hollfelder vigilantes.
