The sea of rocks "Jägerfelsen" is one of the natural monuments around Heidelberg (and since 1992 also a nature reserve). Several protected species live in the former red sand quarry - "Naturally Heidelberg" offers guided tours here from time to time, during which you can learn a lot about flora and fauna.
