The castle Schwalbennest (1230) was daringly built on a rock on the steep mountainside above the Neckar.
The four castles, and especially the Swallow's Nest, inspired too many legends and stories. So Victor Hugo invented the story of the robber baron "Bligger the Scourge" based in the castle and Mark Twain mentions it in his "stroll through Europe".
The well-preserved ruin is freely accessible and from the walk-in battlement on the two-lobed shield wall offers a great view.
