The section of the wall on the north side of the Reichstag building does not come from Berlin, but from the Danzig shipyard, which commemorates the founding of the Polish trade union movement. The later Nobel Peace Prize laureate Lech Wałęsa is said to have climbed this wall in August 1980 to organize the strike at the shipyard in Gdansk.
