Hiking Highlight
The Gendarmenmarkt is one of the most beautiful squares in Berlin. It is dominated by three monumental buildings: the German Cathedral, the French Cathedral and the Konzerthaus (formerly the Schauspielhaus). The eventful history of the Gendarmenmarkt can be traced back to the 17th century - and each individual historical phase has left its mark to this day.

The German and French Dome and in the middle of the concert hall are really a beautiful ensemble on the Gendarmenmarkt. You can climb the French Cathedral for a small fee and you have a great view of the city.

The Gendarmenmarkt is a square named after the cuirassier regiment Gens d'armes, which originally settled here, in Berlin's Mitte district of the district of the same name.
Created when the city was expanded in 1688, it was destroyed in World War II and rebuilt in 1976-1993.
On it are the playhouse by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, which is now used as a concert hall, as well as the German and French Cathedrals by Carl von Gontard.
The Gendarmenmarkt is known as "Berlin's most beautiful square".

My recommendations:
1. The German Cathedral accommodates i.a. the exhibition of the German Bundestag. The free guided tour is also highly recommended.
2. The French Cathedral houses the Huguenot Museum and the 360-degree panorama from the viewing platform offers a great view of the city's most important sights: Berlin Cathedral, Alexander Tower, Humboldt Forum, Red City Hall, Reichstag, Charité, etc.
3. Guided tours (45 minutes, 3 euros per person) are also offered in the concert hall.
4. Visit to the Rausch Schokoladenhaus / CHOCOLATE CAFÉ

The Gendarmenmarkt is one of the most beautiful squares in Berlin and consists of three buildings: the German Cathedral, the Konzerthaus and the French Cathedral. The square was created in the 17th century and over the centuries has become an important center of commerce, culture and history. One of the most impressive buildings on Gendarmenmarkt is the Konzerthaus, also known as the Schauspielhaus Berlin. It was built in the late 18th century and initially served as the Royal National Theatre. Today the Konzerthaus is an important venue for classical concerts, opera performances and other cultural events.Another building on Gendarmenmarkt is the German Cathedral, an 18th-century baroque building used as a church and museum. The French Cathedral, the third building on the square, is an imposing church built by French Huguenots in the 18th century and is now used as a cultural center. The Gendarmenmarkt is a place that is both historically and culturally significant. The square has been an important place for trade and culture over the centuries and has also been the scene of important historical events. Today the square is a popular destination for tourists who want to admire the beauty and architecture of the buildings and attend cultural events. In the vicinity of the Gendarmenmarkt you will also find numerous restaurants, cafes and shops offering a wide range of food and souvenirs. This year (2022) the Christmas market on Gendarmenmarkt has moved to Bebelplatz (at St. Hedwig's Cathedral and State Opera). The Gendarmenmarkt is a construction site for 2 years.

Nice place, but quite a construction site at the moment. It will probably stay that way for a while longer.

The Gendarmenmarkt is currently under construction. The whole place is behind a construction fence and it will probably be at least a year or more before the place will be a sight to behold again!
