    Hiking

The Sowter Stone waterfall at Chatsworth Park. The stone is carved into a basin at the top to hold a pool of water fed by a small stream. The views from the stone over the house and it's gardens hundreds of feet below are wonderful.

    Hiking

Sowter Stone Waterfall is a beautiful waterfall in Stand Wood, on the Chatsworth Estate. The gardener responsible for Chatsworth, Joseph Paxton, designed these falls to flow into an aqueduct, which you can still see today, and onto the stone staircase in the gardens. You get a great view from the top pool. A beautiful spot. It can get busy at times, however.

    Hiking

Water from the Ring Pond flows over the Sowter Stone and down to the Aqueduct, which was constructed by Paxton in the late 1830’s and early 1840’s as part of his improvements to Stand Wood. The water continues down through Stand Wood and enters the garden above the Cascade Pond.
