WTW Eckington, Troway, Marsh Lane & the Moss Valley
A very fresh and windy Spring walk from Eckington along The Moss brook towards Troway then round to Marsh Lane and back to Eckington. Lots of relics of the industrial past of the area - especially old mill ponds that are now fisheries.

WTW Ollerton & Boughton Brake
A pleasant walk from Ollerton, up through New Ollerton (via Ollerton Pit woods) to Boughton Brake and the Pumping House, then back along the River Maun. This is basically the other half of a walk I did last week from Edwinstowe and could easily be combined into one longer (12.5 mile) hike. Be aware that the path near the bridges on Whitewater Lane (near Boughton Brake) was flooded. I actually went the other side of the footbridge to where the waterlogged path is... But it was still very boggy. 💦

WTW Sherwood Forest, Edwinstowe & Ollerton
A lovely walk through Sherwood Forest and Sherwood Heath from Edwinstowe to Ollerton. Although it started off foggy, once that lifted, it was the first hike I've had this year that actually felt like Spring, which was nice. 🔆🌼

WTW Turnditch & Muggington
A pretty nice walk from Turnditch to Muggington with some great views of the Ecclesbourne valley. The paths were quite bad though. Hardly any of the paths (apart from those at the side of roads) were proper paths... Just indiscernible routes across meadows or ploughed fields. In summer most of them would probably be alright but it was a very muddy walk. The stretch between Old Colvert and Hunger Lane near Muggington is to be avoided though - probably at all times of year. I added it as a highlight but it really isn't... It was a horrible grassless field with nothing solid to walk on. It only needed a rotting corpse or two and some hidden landmines to be a perfect setting for a WW1 trench warfare film. 😬 Poor cows that have to live there. I nearly lost my boot and ended up caked in mud, cow crap ganache up to my shins. 💩 I probably should have turned back and found an alternate way but after going so far and spending so long picking my route through the sludge I was reluctant to go back and then add on a few miles. Luckily I found an outside tap at the church at Muggington, so was able to clean off most of the filth.

@Walk The Walk 🌳 A tragedy in Plumbley Colliery cooling pond in those woods took place in 1895 when 3 children drowned and a man who tried in vain to rescue them. There is a memorial I think in Eckington cemetery but I haven't found it🫤
