The Great Hall, at Winchester Castle, is one of the finest surviving medieval aisled halls of the 13th century. The castle was founded in 1067 by William the Conqueror shortly after his victory at the Battle of Hastings.

In 1222, Henry III began the construction of one of the earliest Gothic styled medieval halls. Dominating the Great Hall is the iconic Round Table, linked to the ancient legends of King Arthur and his Knights.

The Great Hall is normally open every day from 10am-4.30pm. For more information, visit: hants.gov.uk/thingstodo/greathall.

The Great Hall is one of the finest surviving medieval aisled halls of the 13th century and is all that remains of Winchester Castle. The Great Hall is open daily to the public offering a unique historical experience and the chance to see the greatest symbol of medieval mythology: King Arthur's Round Table. Visitors can also see Queen Eleanor's garden, a recreation of an enclosed medieval garden, providing an injection of nature.

Fascinating building, featuring gates built in respect of King Charles, with a key shaped as a W for William, the hanging round table is large and impressive.
