Water wheels can still be found on the Maille, at the Inner Bridge and in Little Venice (Roßmarkt). They once powered the turbines of the early industrial plants of the 19th century. At that time, they were the engine for the beginning of industrialization in Württemberg.

In 2003, a graduate engineer and a master carpenter decided to lease two of the dilapidated water wheels and restore them with the aim of putting them back into operation. The historic water wheels are therefore still in operation today and are used to generate electricity. The water wheel on the Roßmarkt supplies the electric charging station there with electricity.
