The Kielmeyerhaus was built as a hospital wine press in 1582 and was part of the former St. Catherine's Hospital. The building was used as a wine press and warehouse at the time.
The St. Catherine's Hospital was located on what is now the market square. The Renaissance building with the half-timbering painted in Franconian red was built in 1582 and was the only building to survive the demolition of the hospital.

The magnificent Kielmeyerhaus in Esslingen am Neckar is one of the most beautiful half-timbered houses in the city. It was built in 1582 as a wine press for the Katharinenhospital, which stood on the market square from the 13th century until 1811.
