The Prinzesshof is the oldest secular building in Itzehoe and its core dates back to the 16th century.

Three princesses resided there between 1810 and 1941 - hence the name Prinzesshof. Nowadays the building is used as a museum and the permanent exhibition focuses on information on the history and cultural history of the district in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Evidence from the epoch in the entire Danish state (until 1864) and the Prussian era as well as exhibits on handicrafts, trade, industry, art, handicrafts, the military and religion of the district are abundant.

Annually changing special exhibitions with an extensive supporting program (e.g. search games and rallies for children and school classes) are shown in the district museum, mainly on topics of cultural history. In addition, concerts, lectures and readings take place in the lecture hall.

The Prinzesshof houses the district museum of the city of Itzehoe.

      The museum can be visited every Tuesday - Sunday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Currently (end of 2022), however, only the basement with the special exhibition is open due to major restoration measures.

The Prinzesshof is the oldest secular building in Itzehoe and its core dates back to the 16th century. In November 1988 the museum was reopened with a newly designed permanent exhibition related to the Steinburg district.

The focus of the presentation is the history and cultural history of the Steinburg district in the 19th and 20th centuries. Annually changing special exhibitions with an extensive supporting program, mainly on cultural-historical topics, are shown in the museum. In addition, concerts, lectures and readings take place in the lecture hall.
