A beautiful, hilly forest with many paths, paths and ponds, plus a sand dune. Ideal for hiking and MTBing. And then directly in front of the city - what more could you want?

      Wallenstein oak
On foot back to the year 1627 - even if time travel is still a thing of the future, the participants of the bike tour to Oelixdorf can walk in the footsteps of a historical event. 383 years ago, the imperial troops under Commander-in-Chief Wallenstein advanced into northern Germany. In late summer they besieged the Breitenburg for two weeks, robbed the extensive library and burned down parts of the palace complex.
While the Breitenburg was mainly defended by the farmers in the area, Wallenstein chose a very special place to observe the castle: according to contemporary records, he used an oak tree felled in 1875 on the Breitenburger Weg/Charlottenhöhe junction. A memorial stone with the inscription "Wallensteineike, fallen on August 16, 1875" was placed at the site.

The Breitenburger ferry is a disruptive crossing between the communities of Breitenburg and Oelixdorf.
The ferry service was replaced by a bridge in 1621. Nevertheless, the Stör crossing is still referred to as the "Breitenburg ferry". State road 116 runs over today's bridge.
An inn at the bridge on the Breitenburg side is also named after the former ferry. This is (as of May 2020) no longer in operation.
A bronze sculpture by the sculptor Karlheinz Goedtke has been reminiscent of the past and history of this crossing point since 1979. It represents the various stages of development from a ford via ferry, wooden bridge, steel bridge to today's prestressed concrete bridge. The bronze sculpture was inaugurated by the mayor of Breitenburg, Karl-Hermann Wieckhorst.
Breitenburg Castle is a little further south.
