The church organ was started by Arp Schnitzer between 1715 and 1719, and ended after his death by his student Lambert Daniel Kasten.
In 1905 the organ was replaced by a new one by Wilhelm Sauer

The town church of St. Laurentii in the center of Itzehoe is the town's largest sacred building. It was built from 1716 to 1718 as a baroque brick hall with a wide-spanning wooden barrel vault and replaced a two-aisled Gothic hall church that was largely destroyed in the city fire of 1657 (during the Danish-Swedish War) and was then only provisionally restored. Below the church are crypts with metal coffins of canonesses of the noble Itzehoe monastery and members of the Rantzau imperial family.The namesake of the church - Laurentius - was the deacon at the side of Bishop Sixtus II of Rome. He died a martyr and was burned alive on an iron griddle. His remains are buried in San Lorenzo fuori le mura in Rome.Today's church still retains the character of the time it was built in the years 1716 to 1718, apart from the changes from the 19th and 20th centuries.Further information can be found in the brochure “Illustrated Church Guide to the Crypt of St. Laurentii Church in Itzehoe”. The imposing church in the town of Itzehoe can be visited, but has very limited opening times:
April - September + December Monday to Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturdays all year round from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.A few old gravestones can be admired directly in front of the church and the small playground in front of the main entrance is also cute.
