Part of the old city wall

Owl towers are numerous in Germany and mostly refer to medieval tower structures, although their type varies. Sometimes there are church towers and sometimes - as in Merseburg - city wall towers. Such defense towers were found at various points in the city wall erected in the early 13th century, but only the owl tower has survived. The 28 meter high tower probably owes this to a large extent to the "Tanzsportclub Blau-Silber Leuna-Merseburg", which seized the opportunity of the conversion in 1980 and created an original location in their very own way. With thousands of hours of personal work, a seven-story bar was set up in the Owl Tower, whereby the space was used extremely skilfully by setting up a part on each floor of the tower, which widens upwards (inside), so that a different use took place on each floor . Thus, on the total of 92 steps u. a. in the bar, in a waiting area, in a dance hall or in a room that was only intended for relaxation. The tower was probably built in 1218, so it is almost 800 years old.
