"... The natural monument "Geological Wall Kampmannbrücke" is located near the Kampmannbrücke in the Heisinger district of Essen.
The former quarry is located on the northern shore of Lake Baldeney. The profile opened up here opens up more than 50,000 years of geological history with coal seams and plant fossils. Tunnel entrances are reminiscent of historical hard coal mining.
Here the coal is within reach. There are two seams outcrop - you can even see a coal seam. The restored tunnel mouths of the Wasserschneppe and Voßhegge collieries can be clearly seen in the wall. Of course they are barred and after a few meters the tunnels are walled up.
In front of the Geological Wall there are information boards that describe the history of its origin. ..."

Fascinating: The profile allows you to trace 50,000 years of the earth's history. "A window into the coal mountains" is what one of the information boards says. The layers of the formation that is exposed here were created several hundred million years ago. A former quarry, historic mine and natural monument.
