    Ploweslay = the blue rock

    Ploweslay is the name of this field. What is behind this name? To decipher the name, the name must be separated into two words. Lay means stone or rock. Plowes has to be referred to colloquially as ploo, High German = blue, and probably has its origin in the French period on the left bank of the Rhine, when Boppard belonged to the French Republic from 1791 to 1813. At that time, many French terms were Germanized. This is probably how it was with the French word bleu, German = blue, colloquial = ploo, something blue. The rock emerging near the surface in the form of the blue Hunsrück slate definitely allows this view. The name Ploweslay can therefore be described as a blue rock that rises imposingly in a steep position from the river bed of the Rhine. Source: Text information board

      Ploweslay = the blue rock
      The name can be explained by the shimmering of the slate rock (ploo = blue, lay = rock)
