The old town house of the city of Dortmund on Friedensplatz opposite the new town hall was built in 1899 in the neo-renaissance style according to a design by the town planner Friedrich Kullrich. The design of the old town hall is based on the formal language of the historic town hall, which is located on the old market.

The four-storey town house has a clear hierarchy of the individual design levels of the facade. There are large three-part arched windows on the ground floor, with the variety of designs decreasing towards the top. The individual floors are separated from each other by decorative ribbons. The front facade is particularly rich in detail with an ornamental gable and the eagle, Dortmund's city coat of arms. Another design element is the use of red sandstone in conjunction with white plastered surfaces.

After the destruction in World War II, the town house was restored and rebuilt. Between two windows on the west side is the Westphalian saying “So fast as düörpm” (“As solid as Dortmund”).

The Berswordt Hall, built in 2002, serves as a link between the old and the new townhouse.

The old town hall of the city of Dortmund was built in 1899 in neo-Renaissance style according to a design by city building officer Friedrich Kullrich. After severe damage during World War II, it was rebuilt, but in a slightly simplified form.
