Due to its location at the crossroads of some of the best-known and most touristic spots in Leuven, it is one of the busiest squares in Leuven, yet traffic-free.
Most of the buildings on the Grote Markt are built in the famous Brabant Gothic style, such as the monumental town hall.
Other striking buildings on the Grote Markt are the Tafelrond, the Collegiate Saint Peter's Church and some beautiful guild houses.
As in all of Leuven, there are plenty of cafes and taverns to take a breather.
